FINANCE OFFICER POSITION

The Municipality of Swan Valley West is currently seeking a skilled, experienced

Finance Officer to join our organization.

Under the direction of and reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of our financial transactions and procedures.

Job Brief

The ideal candidate should be familiar with audits, invoices, budget preparations, managing accounting activities, including bank reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, maintaining and analyzing the capital asset records in accordance with the Public Sector Accounting Board’s Standards for Tangible Capital Assets, maintaining files and records for the same, tax roll and associated duties as well as payroll. You should also have excellent organizational skills and be able to handle time-sensitive tasks.

Requirements

  • Proven work experience, 2+ years, as a Finance Officer or similar role
  • Solid knowledge of financial and accounting procedures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience using financial software
  • Proficient in MS Excel, MS Word
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Strong ethics, with an ability to manage confidential data

Preference Given To Those With

  • Working knowledge of Munisoft Municipal software
  • Business Accounting Certificate, (CPA is considered an asset)
  • CMMA from University of Manitoba or willing to enroll in the program

Salary in accordance with current municipal Union Contract and dependent upon qualifications and experience.

Public Notice is hereby given that the Audited Financial Statement and Federal Gas Tax Report for the Municipality of Swan Valley West for the year ending December 31st, 2015, together with related financial statements, have been deposited in the office of the Corporation located at 216 Main St. W. Swan River, MB.

The reports are available for inspection by any person or his agent during regular business hours. Any person or agent may, at his own expense, receive a copy thereof.

Burnside Bridge By-Law

Burnside Bridge By-Law

In 2011 the Burnside Bridge was damaged beyond repair by flood waters.

In 2014 the Council of the day agreed to replace the bridge using Disaster Relief Assistance.  However at that time the council decided to better the bridge by increasing the its load capacity.  As this was considered to be an improvement, this cost of $300,000.00 was not covered by Disaster Relief Assistance.  A public Hearing was held and a borrowing was approved by the Provincial Government.

This is a Rural borrowing, so everyone with a rural assessment will be assessed the levy.
